This morning I received a happy email from Blizzard entertainment, more specifically, their account admins from WoW. It informed me that my account's password had been changed. I didn't actually see this message until several hours later, when another had joined it, this one with an even better message: My account was suspended and being inspected for spamming and unauthorized advertising.

Earlier, it would not let me retrieve my password, but I finally managed to do so just recently, and upon trying to log in, I found I'm no longer suspended. I'm outright banned.

I sent off an email earlier, to the account administration, explaining that I must have been hacked, and was in no way responsible for what was going on with my account, and we'll see what they say. I did find a trojan on my machine that was the obvious culprit (Named troj_wowsomething by my virus scanner) and have removed it now. Not sure how I got it or where it came from, but regardless, it was there.

But, I get the feeling that this is going to be a permanent thing, despite my appeal, because I get the impression that Blizzard doesn't really care. We'll see what their response is, but .. Well, I'm not impressed at this kind of "ban first, ask questions later if they raise a fuss" attitude, I think that's absolutely an awful way to treat someone, especially a customer, especially a customer who has been victimized already and events are already beyond their control.

I think it's pretty much bullshit that they can do that, really. Any other product, service, contract, a company wouldn't be able to terminate just like that, without any attempt at communication between the other parties involved. It just wouldn't happen. An email informing me that I'm suspended isn't adequate communication.

Anyone else had any annoyances like this with other subscription based games or services, perhaps even WoW in particular?

My one friend seems pessimistic, saying that he's never heard of Blizzard reversing this kind of decision. Does anyone here have any other experiences? I am disgusted at the thought that they might expect me to buy the entire game again if I want to continue playing, not to mention getting my character back to the point it was at. I would really like to just get my account returned to me, and opened for use again. Anyone know if that is remotely likely or not?
