Unearthed band returns to earth
The local rock outfit started by a brother/sister rock duo from rural Victoria, Killing Heidi, have decided to return to the bush and finally put Heidi to sleep.
"I wish I had a clear answer on the status of the band," guitarist Jesse has let slip to the media.
"Ella and I are heading to the country to do some songwriting for a while, and get some idea of what we want to do next".
Jesse and Ella Hooper's hit song Weir streaked to Aussie number 1 back in 1999, the band following up the single with a strong album Reflector. The album also spawned Superman/Supergirl, putting the band beyond one-hit-wonder taunts.
The Hoopers came from Violet Town and were 'Unearthed" by Triple-J who noticed their solid songwriting, individual fashion sense and pop-rocking style. Before long they were featured on The Panel, the Looking For Alibrandi Soundtrack and others.
The band's growth was not without drama, rumours circulating from very early on when the band's new manager replaced some original band members with an alternative bassist and drummer, not from Violet Town.
More recently, while in the studio recording their latest self-titled album, Ella developed problems needing throat surgery. The eventual album garnered worthy attention with the single, Calm Down, but this failed to raise the band to its previous hits, despite very vigilant touring.
The band have not commented on rumours this split is due to some conflict within the group.
The band have recently recorded a new album but there are as yet no plans to release it.
