    Default Career choice, help!

It's Christmas Eve, which means there are still 7 more days to go before the year ends (in my timezone). Oh noooo. I don't even feel the Christmas spirit. Boohoo. Instead, I feel pressured of my future. Since I was little, many people have asked me what I want to become when I grow up. I've answered differently whenever that question came up. I've thought about being a singer, a painter, a doctor, and etc. Back then, I only thought about what I had wanted to do at that moment. I didn't consider how I was suppose to live with that job, or you know, things like that.

Now, as a high school sophomore, I've come to realize that time is running out. I don't want to end up as a failure! I need to figure out what I really want to become. My parents have told me that it's still "too early to think about the future" and "don't worry about it." But I know that they're just trying to comfort me in all the wrong ways. In truth, they want me to decide on what career I should take already. My mind's all mumbo jumbo, seriously. I remember career talks at school, and whatnot making me feel more pressured. My friends can't help me, since they already have thought of a course to take in college; or they just don't need to work that hard because they have their parents to support her uh, financial needs. Darn it. Darn it. Darn it!! I really don't know what I want to become. I've thought about becoming an interior designer, or taking up mass communication. But, I'm still unsure of everything. The thought of taking business management came to me. I'm afraid that I'd fail math. Aah, my father's crushed dream. Hahaha, sorry dad. I know I'm suppose to be a math geek since I'm Chinese and everything. Numbers + me = xyzzzzzz.

Is it really too early for me to worry about these things? If not, any tips on choosing a career wisely? Help meeeee.

Just do what your good at, if you have a good voice then become a singer, if your good at Computers work for Microsoft or Apple, good pay. If your good at persuading people then work in properties and sell people some Homes.

I still haven't thought about what I want to be, I've thought about becoming a Businessman or working with Graphics, of course that will be hard, just get a part-time Job and see where you go from there, after all, you don't want to work in a place you don't like.

    Good luck and Merry Christmas.

True, true. I don't want to get stuck in doing something I wouldn't want to do. But still!
    Thank you though!

we had choices of doing work experience and then decide is we liked that line of work. does your school do this? i remember doing work experience at many places. you rock up at a work place and ask for work experience on something you are interested in. it lasts 2 weeks here.
i dont kno your age but i kno friends that didnt kno what they wanted to be till in ther 20's. i wouldnt stress to much. one day the time will come and you think to your self hey i really want to do this. you cant pressure your self into something. free your mind. live life and that day will come. im in my 30's and still never new what i wanted to be. so i just worked around place to place trying different things. that day never came to me on what i wanted to be. now all i am is a father and do factory work with good pay to support my family thats all that matters to me now. your still young dont stess

Hmm I can relate to you. But, in reality.. your parents are kinda right. Don't worry about it at the moment, live your High School life. I'm a Senior in High School, and I just figured out what I really want to be. When it becomes summer time for you, think about what you want to do. Think very seriously. After you decide that, Junior year go talk to your counselors, they should be able to help you get there. Just don't screw up in school. Get good grades. Then you have nothing to worry about. Good luck.

A wise man once told me, if you do a job you love, you never work a day in your life.

For me its holding a gun and taking orders. Do what you love, do what you think will get you further in life.
Love is, above all, the gift of oneself.

    Killer:
I'm 15. My school doesn't give out work experiences and such, all they do is give out talks. And that doesn't help much, unfortunately. I don't want t be left behind from my friends and the people around me. It's like they're moving forward, and I'm stuck on one place. :(

    Kd.:
Yes, I shall take my summers seriously from now on. I hope I don't go to US next summer! I still need to learn Mandarin. Darn. The pressure!! Lol, thanks for your advice! So, right now I should just focus on my schoolwork, when classes resume, of course.

You're a hitman?? O: Lucky you, the pay is high. If I do what I love, the pay won't really do me much.

I was the same at your age. I never did specialise at anything big cos I didn't really know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Turns out I really don't want to do anything for the rest of my life. I have loved being able to do many things, I really like to change my job every 5 years or so to keep from gathering dust and to keep learning, it feeds my mind. I haven't been able to work much for a while but before then I was a junior in admin, then in the billing area and then in service control then I took a course 5 years later and became a photocopier technician. All in the same company! Then I left work and did some factory work with a relo and that was fun. Did some sales work too and worked in a take away shop, none of them were cos I had to, I wanted to experience working in the different places. After the tech work I'd do anything to not work in an office again lol.
I didn't do all these things for 5 years each though lol.

If u want my advice, u sound a little like me, u want to do all those things that are in your mind. Maybe u have a course u can take that will cover a few of the things that are on your 'list" like a bachelor of arts degree or something of the like. After u do something like that u will have a certificate behind u and a lot of options to choose from. Sounds to me like your putting more pressure on yourself than anyone around u is. Relax, it will all make sense one day
