Did you get a disk with your modern? A USB driver connect will be on that disk.

I got the disc with device drivers with my modem. But I always thought it'll only work with a comp-modem connection. Not sure it'll work with a comp-comp connection, though.

can you get a hold of a Router? i went out and bought a wireless Router to run my wireless laptop and i connected 3 computers up to the Router using Ethernet.

if you want to connect your other computer up by USB, you can ring your ISP and ask them what Driver you need to download and install on your computer. are you running WIN7? or XP?
ask your ISP support to give you the link to download the correct driver, install it, connect USB and your on the net, its that simple mate.

I've got a Netgear wireless router gathering dust in my bedroom. I don't know how to set up a home Ethernet network.

I want to connect my computer using the USB port not to the Internet but to my other computer (or a laptop).

Yeap. Is it possible to do it through the USB port? I searched with Google but couldn't find a simple solution.

its been along time since i have done this, but one solution that i know of that works that i have set up only once for a customer request:
1-Go to a reputable computer supplies store or online retailer and buy a special data transfer cable. Explain that you need a USB cable to connect the two computers and ask for recommendations. Let them know what windows both computers are, just encase!

2-Install the drivers on both computers, and then plug in the cable i guess by following the the instructions.

3-Follow the steps to configure the USB settings on both computers so that they can communicate with each other.

either that dig out the Netgear wireless router, has that got more than one network connection?

How to connect two computers using USB cable - YouTube

I've watched the video but there was no sound then I've watched other videos but people really don't explain it step by step. But I've got the vague idea how to do it. I like to experiment with the hardware anyway usually destroying components in the end.

The wireless router has 4 connection ports and when I used it there were too many dropouts so I stopped using it. The user manual that came with it was hopeless.

Nonetheless I'll see what happens. Thanks for hints.

It is possible to use WLAN or ISDN to create a home network with two or more computers linked on it.
