it really slows your computer down so I dont suggest it either.

as for me, I'd suggest you buying COMODO Premium package ( if you will to pay ) or Avira Premium. AVG is also good as I've seen some information about it but never used it before on my computer.

for now I'm using their free Antivirus+firewall and they're really amazing.

I use AVAST and AVG. I'm really impressed with Avast. AVG has been pissing me off a bit lately.

I don't use any anti virus or firewall programs because once they are installed I can not connect to the Internet to save my life.

I know you mentioned that you do not want to use a free anti-virus program, but there really isn't a need for professional software. To offer a bit of credibility, I work as a computer technician for the school district in my town. On my personal computer, I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It is a free program that scans for and protects against viruses, malware, and spyware. Most free anti-virus software will only scan for one or another, but MSE scans for all three without intruding on your privacy or using a lot of memory. It runs in the background pretty quietly and does a great job of protecting my computer.
If you still want to go ahead and get a professional anti-virus program, definitely do NOT purchase Norton. Norton is very obnoxious and intruding. Avast is my recommended professional software. Even the free version of Avast is nice. It only scans for and protects against viruses, but it is non-intrusive for the most part and light on the memory. I used to use Avast Free in combination with Spybot Search and Destroy (for spyware) and Malwarebytes (for malware).

tl;dr - Microsoft Security Essentials is just as good as many professional anti-virus programs. Either go with that or purchase Avast.

Norton is the best antivirus software when choosing a paid security software.
