    Default blood transfusion?

i have heard a few not nice story about blood transfusion in the past.

The blood used in blood transfusion has no history of its owner. Who knows – the owner may have HIV/STD/AIDS, Soars, leukemia & other kinds of illnesses.

TRALI (Transfusion-related acute lung injury) can be cause by this practice and has caused hundreds of deaths each year.

The blood is normally always tested for deadly diseases before it's stored, here in Aus anyway, but u hear of the occasional "mistake" that slipped through and gave someone a disease.

I would wonder though and have myself tested for anything that I mihgt have contracted through it.

A few things to keep in mind:

    1. As already mentioned, as many diseases as possible are tested for before accepting the blood. They would not take blood from just anybody, you know.

    2. These stories you hear? You hear them because they're sensational. The news jumps on stories like these because it's so unusual and exciting to hear. For every mistake that happens, I bet there are hundreds and thousands of safe transfusions.

    3. If you're in such a state where you'll need somebody's blood, I doubt you'll be worried about such possible consequences that may affect you in the long-run. At that moment in time, you'll just want to live for another day.
