DETAILED TUTURIAL

1. STEP ONE

Find the picture or pictures that you want to share with the forum. You may have found pictures surfing the web or you may have created some pictures by scanning or video capping something.

SAVE THE PICTURES TO YOUR COMPUTER!

A word about picture formats. The preferred format for pictures is JPEG. BMP and PNG formats, while they can be used create much larger file sizes. GIFs will only be used if you have an animated one.

These are the two images that will be used as examples throughout this tutorial (Jessica Alba & Scarlett Johansson):

These are samples of the pics used below which are 1046x1400 @ 169kb and 1099x1600 @192kb respectfully.

2. STEP TWO

Select your Image hosting service from the list above (or located in Rule 5). The image hosting service will provide the code that will be needed for posting the thumbnailed pictures on the forum.

Please use ONLY one of the sites listed within Rule 5 or else your post will likely be deleted and a warning message may be issued.

The two most commonly used image hosting sites are:

Imageshack

and

ImageVenue

All the approved imagehosts allow many common picture file types especially JPG and GIF.

They also all have varying file size limits. For example for Imageshack & ImageVenue have a file size limit of 1.5 Mb per picture. But sites such as Uploadem have a limit of 15mb per picture & Zshare has a maximum image file size of 100MB!

Some of these sites also have a feature for batch uploading (uploading multiple pictures at once) such as Imageshack's Toolbar which lets you "drag-and-drop" multiple pics to upload (though you may have to register).

Once you have chosen an imagehost look for a "BROWSE" button. If not found then look for an "Upload" link which may lead you to the "browse" button page

Locate your picture(s) from your hard drive. Press "Open" when you have found it.

Press "UPLOAD" or "HOST IT" or similar button after you have found your pics.

3. STEP THREE

COPY the "thumbnail forum" code, "BB code", "UBBcode" or a similar named code

These are samples of the code link pages that are returned by ImageShack & Imagevenue:

The red area is the code that you will copy. It will look similar to this Code:

[IMG]http:.//imagehost.com/picture1thumb.jpg[/IMG]

These came from uploading the images one at a time in imageshack:

4. STEP FOUR

Above the forum press "Post". Paste your thumbnail code into the post box area.

It is not necessary to use any other tags or "Instant UBB Code". Simply copy your given code and paste.

It will look like this depending on # of pics you want to post:

OR

Just make sure there is a space between each individual thumbnail code. It will look neater for all.

If Successful the thumbnails should show up like this:

using other imagehosts...

5. STEP FIVE

Make sure to check "I want to preview my post" above the "Continue" button. Press Continue if you are sure the thumbnails will work.

6. STEP SIX

Congratulations if you posted them correctly! If not make sure you pasted the correct UBB code.

Some tips on making your post look good:

After you have pasted a line of code for your picture hit the space bar before you paste the next line of code. Then you will have your pictures tiled horizontally so people won't have to scroll up and down. If you have lots of pictures group them in groups of 5 or 6 by hitting the enter key between groups. Make sure you look carefully at the preview of your post before submitting it to make sure it looks good and all your link are loading.

Once you have done it a couple of times it becomes simple. There are some available uploading tools which can also make your job easier. Shelluploader is for imageshack.us and paintedover.com while Picup will allow you many more options like imagevenue, imageshack etc. These are simple to use and allow you to easily upload large quanities of images.
