    Default society's expectations ..

Hay, I am doing a year 12 assignment, due on thurs, on the impact of social discourses and the extent to which we are truly free to choose who we become.. and I was just wondering what you guys think of societys expectations, like specifically im focusing on Gender issues, and how it is socially unnacceptable for a guy to dance (Billy Elliot).. Do you adhere to societys views, or do you choose what you want to do and not give a shit whether society frowns upon them.. me, im probably a bit of both, I remember as a kid I use to ride my bike with my guy next door neighours, and i still climb tree's lol.. and use to make mud pies.. have never been a real girly girl.. so yea, Do you follow societys expectations as a guideline to who you want to become?

    Thanks heaps

Also, I wont be using direct ideas on this I was just wondering what everyone else thought about these issues..

hey, this may not have anything to do with it but, i love girls that skate, race bmx, race moto-x. i also loved the movie Billy Elliot, how his father did not except him for who he was till the very end of the movie. mums want their daughters to do ballet, fathers want their sons to play foot ball, i full on think thats wrong. if a girl likes to do what must guys do then go for it and same for boys doing things that everyone thinks only girls should do. i say go for it, im with you i dont give a shit, stat your point and good luck.

of the topic a little, i wasnt sure how to spell ballet lol and came across this

I really don't pay attention to society's beliefs and stuff.

I do what I want and so do my friends.

I just realised you had heath ledger (joker) as your dp thing..

what do you mean by as they grow older?? like in what way.. i think as people get older they do there own thing, whereas teens and children want to be accepted within society so they follow the 'guidelines" so they arent excluded.

People will always do there own thing, they just dont realise that most of the time they are following the norms of society.

However to answer your question. As you grow older and leave the safe little world of school. (or as old people say 'the real world') You have to adapt and sometimes follow what society dictates. A simple example would be when someone applys for a job.

Society says that when going for an interview, you wear for example a suit, are well groomed and have a proper understanding and interest in the job you are going for, and you'r well spoken.

By doing this your chances at getting the job are increased instead of if you were to arrive to the interview in casual clothes with a real disinterest in being at the interview.

Society's expectations can also be blamed for alot of the sterotypes and superficial attitude that we have towards other people.

I hope i made some sense? Let me know if i didnt
