    Default Laptop troubles.. [Solved]

i didn't know where else to post this, so if it needs to be moved....

My laptop freezes a lot, especially when I'm using the net, i get the always annoying ("Not Responding")

Does anyone know why this happens, it is increasingly frustrating! :frusty:

I had it checked out recently, but they couldn't find anything wrong

    Moved to Tech Support.

Hmm. There's not a lot of info there so it could be a lot of things.

    Most likely

    Not enough hard drive room

    A virus

or just too many programs running.

How long has this been happening for?

Can you remember what you did last before it froze for the first time?

Do you leave your laptop on hibernate?

Do you Leave it on for long periods of time?

    Where do normally use it?

Where do you normally store it?

Are any of these place dusty?

Have you noticed any rise in Fan noise?

What other programs does it freeze on?

How many applications do you normally have running at once?

How much memory (RAM) do you have? If you use too many memory hungry apps at once then this can cause programs to slow down and to the point of freezing/not responding.

If it was only happening with your internet browser then I would suggest re-installing it or moving to the latest update (sometimes that makes it worse!).

Hit left-ctrl + right-alt gr + del(ete) (but keep ctrl pressed when pressing alt-gr and keep them both pressed when pressing delete), Click on the Processes tab and view which program is using the most memory.

Applications like your Internet browser can eat memory up quickly especially if you have numerous tabs open at once showing high graphically intense websites. Have less tabs open at once if this is the case.

Check to see if there is any processes on the list running that shouldn't be (warning check what each processes are by googling them, otherwise you could end up crashing you computer).

Fail all that you internal componants might just be dusty and given them a clean could well fix the problem (this is generally the problem when my computer freezes).

Anyways I hope some of this is a help.

    good advice by shadowman.

are you running dial up, 512 broadband? or 1500 connection.

i run 1500 because of 3 computers and ps2 online racing,

i must note i'll be moving to 2300 next month and will be loving that lol.

anyway everything seems to freeze on dial up lol.

@ shadowman, your new job is working with computers?
